What is the PTA? Why join? The number one reason to join our Parent Teacher Association is to make an investment in your child’s future. Joining the PTA allows you to enhance the growth, experience and educational opportunity of your child during their time in middle school. There are endless reasons why you should become involved in the PTA at your child’s school; here are some direct advantages to you:

Get Connected!

There is no better way to know what’s happening at Thurston and in your community than to see it with your own eyes.

Tap into a Network!

PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers. Building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind allows you to be part of the solution. You can share ideas, concerns and experiences. Middle school parents need connections more than ever.

Watch Yourself Grow!

By volunteering with our PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause. Your enthusiasm benefits your child and touches all of the children in our community.

Be Heard!

PTA can be a great vehicle to share your suggestions and continue to improve the programs at Thurston. Only current PTA members can vote at meetings on new programs and budget allocations. Membership gives you a voice and a vote!

Be a Role Model!

By becoming a PTA member, you will be demonstrating to your child the importance of school and the value you place on their learning environment. Did you know that parent engagement has a direct, positive impact on student achievement and outcomes?

It's only $15!

For a small membership fee of $15/year, you can become part of the Thurston PTA and make a difference in your child’s life, our school, and our community. Please consider a membership for each adult in your family (e.g. mom AND dad).

BONUS: Support Advocacy for Children Across the U.S.

When you join the PTA, you also help support the work that PTA does at the state & national level. PTA is the nation's oldest and largest organization advocating for children's issues.

As the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the nation, National PTA is the conscience of the country for children and youth issues. Through advocacy, as well as family and community education, National PTA has established programs and called for legislation that improves our children’s lives, such as:

  • Creation of Kindergarten classes

  • Child labor laws

  • Public health service

  • Hot and healthy lunch programs

  • Juvenile justice system

  • Mandatory immunization

  • Arts in Education

  • School Safety
